Is Blender greasepencil

worth the hype ?

Hello world it's been a while since i've posted or shared what i'm working on. I guess the best way to start sharing is just by sharing what i've been up to.

I've been hearing alot about Blender especially greasepencil and I thought I would give it a try i'm an illustrator and Animator with a Maya background, I wanted to check out the blender software, mostly because I was really interested in their 2D programme greasepencil.

I really see the potential in this programme and I look forward to trying more things in greasepencil in the future. I enjoyed the work flow and found that it was pretty easy to get use to. I watched and followed a wonderful tutorial by Dedouze who is an awesome artist please follow and send him love on instagram and on youtube.

A word of caution when folowing this tutorial blender has switched alot of their hotkeys and it just takes a little bit of investigating to find out the new hotkeys for certain things, but I would say it is pretty intuitive as a programme. It has a few bugs for example everytime I turned on onion skin I had to save and close and reopen the programme for it to work. I do wish that I had the ability to put things into folders or comps like aftereffects also I think that would make the working progress a bit more organised I found myself with alot of layers. Although there might me a fix for this I'm just judging this of my initial and first review of the programme.

below is my attempt at using blender grease pencil for the first time following Dedouze's tutorial on youtube I have linked the tutorials below.
